Still Time for Dentists to Renew State License
Dentists who did not renew their dental licenses by the state’s December 31, 2009, deadline are now considered by the Georgia Board of Dentistry as having a “lapsed late renewal” status and are also now subject to late renewal fees. Dentists may still renew their dental licenses on the Board’s web site at http://sos.georgia.gov/plb/dentistry. The late renewal fees are $350 for dental licenses, $175 for dental hygiene licenses, $100 for sedation permits, and $1 for volunteer dentists. These fees are in effect until June 30, 2010, after which time non-renewed licenses may be administratively revoked.
Red Flags Rule Delayed Until June 1, 2010
(From the ADA) The Federal Trade Commission announced October 30 that it would extend the moratorium on enforcement of the Red Flag Rule until June 1, 2010. The current moratorium was set to end on November 1. On another front, Senate leaders have told the ADA that they will bring a House version of legislation exempting small businesses from the Red Flag Rule to the floor. Given that the FTC has announced that it supports the legislation, the ADA expects it to pass and the president to sign it, thereby eliminating the threat of a new regulatory burden from most dental practices.
Georgia Pushes Responsible Health Reform
Georgia’s delegation to the American Dental Association was instrumental in developing a health care reform policy statement adopted by the ADA House of Delegates. The new ADA policy supports the GDA’s rational and fiscally responsible approach to reform. Full Story / Read Policy
