Children's Dental Health Month

Children's Dental Health Month is a month-long national health observance bringing together thousands of dedicated professionals, healthcare providers and educators to promote the benefits of good oral health to children, their caregivers, teachers and many others.

Educational activities are held across Georgia with Pre-K and school-aged children throughout the month of February.

Posters and program planning guides are available on ADA.org.

Give Kids a Smile Day

Each year Give Kids A Smile Day is held on the first Friday in February and serves as the annual kick-off to Children's Dental Health Month. Give Kids A Smile (GKAS) volunteers provide free dental health education, screenings, preventive care, and/or treatment for underserved kids across Georgia. While the official GKAS Day is held on the first Friday, events take place throughout the year.

The GDA Foundation for Oral Health provides 10,000 dental hygiene kits (aka Georgia Smile Kits) and clinical supplies to dentists across Georgia for their events every year.

Special Olympics, Special Smiles

The GDA Foundation for Oral Health partners with Special Olympics Georgia to provide the Special Smiles program.

Special Smiles offers dental screenings, health education and prevention services, and refers athletes of all ages to potential sources of treatment and follow-up care. At a Special Smiles event, dental professionals provide oral screenings; oral health education and personal prevention products; and individually fitted sports mouth guards, if needed.

Georgia Mission of Mercy

The Georgia Mission of Mercy (GMOM) charitable initiative is a two-day, no charge dental clinic sponsored by the GDA Foundation for Oral Health.

GOALS:

PROVIDE immediate, free access to dental care for 2,000 low and no income adults, while placing a high priority on patients suffering from dental infections or pain.

EDUCATE patients and their family members about the importance of optimal oral health and securing a dental home.

RAISE AWARENESS of the barriers to available dental treatment for low-income Georgia adults.

CHALLENGE patients, policymakers, and dental professionals to work together to improve the oral health of all Georgians.

Our last event was held in Augusta, GA in 2018. Almost $1.5 million in care and nearly 9200 procedures.
